“Somewhere” Is Going Somewhere!

Great news:

Hartford Stage will be producing Matthew Lopez’s play Somewhere in its 2013-2014 season.  (If you don’t know how thrilled I am to write that sentence, you haven’t read my earlier two-part post “Watching ‘Somewhere’ Bloom” — see February archives.)  This beautiful, innovative play, with dance, is so deserving of another production that I’m delighted for all the east coast theatre lovers who will now get a chance to see it.  The production at Hartford Stage will be directed by Giovanna Sardelli and will feature Priscilla Lopez. I’m already making mental travel plans for Connecticut next April.

Next year will be a busy one for Matthew Lopez  –  it was also recently announced that his new play The Legend of Georgia McBride will have its world premiere at the Denver Center Theatre Company after a hilarious and moving reading during the 2013 Colorado New Play Summit.  And of course the theatre world is not yet done with his award winning play The Whipping Man which is currently one of the most produced plays on the American regional theatre stage (with, at last count, 15 productions scheduled for the 2012-2013 season).  I’m also looking forward to the second season of HBO’s The Newsroom this summer which recently wrapped production with Matthew Lopez as a staff writer working with Aaron Sorkin.  He has a few other projects in the works as well.

Mr. Lopez seems to be going somewhere too.
